The First Amendment grants freedoms concerning Religion, Expressing ones self, Assembly of the people, and the rights to Petition freely. It grants Freedom of Expression by Preventing Congress from interfering the Press or the Rights of Individuals to speak Freely.
The change was made by Abraham Lincoln because he saw the way slaves were treated by the south and which created a further reason for the union in the war
