Ironclads were warships used in the Battle of the Monitor and Merrimack. The battle is famous because was the first clash between ironclad warships. It took place on March 8, 1862 and March 9, 1862 and changed the  future of naval warfare.

The ships were destroyed by long range, explosive cannon fire.
