The casting of the show was no accident. Lin-Manuel Miranda rewrote the Founding Father narrative to purposefully reflect the kind of country we live in today. Choosing to cast the founders of our country as people of color may not be ‘historically’ accurate, but it is culturally accurate as a reflection of a 21st century nation built by immigrants.

After reconstruction ended, lynch mobs still existed, the KKK ran rampant, poll taxes, literacy test, and other restrictive measures stopped them from gaining any political clout, socially they were still viewed as inferior by many people, and economically they were unable to gain advantageous positions and become monetarily comfortable enough to gain a middle-class identity.
