1. After WW2, parts of Germany (and many modern European nations) had been divided amongst some nations which included Russia and the US. During this time, Russia had placed all of the nations under its control under a communist regime.

2. After the US had developed nuclear arms and used them on Japanese cities, the Russian government had also developed its own nuclear arms. This had escalated nuclear tensions between the two nations because of the destructive power of these weapons and the hostile relations between the two nations.

5. The root cause of the Cold War was the difference in political ideologies between the US and Russia, whereas the US believed in capitalism and Russia believed in communism.
