Use the drop-down menus to answer the questions about plot and characters in Animal Farm.
Cloud [144]

The book Animal farm, an allegorical story about the Russian Revolution (1917) and the Soviet Union, is about a group of farm animals who, dissatisfied with their human farmer, take over the farm. Their goal is that all the animals become equal and happy.

Which two animals often disagree with each other?

Answer: Napoleon and Snowball always disagree with each other.

Explanation:

Napoleon is a pig that becomes a farm leader after the Rebellion. In order to establish authority over other animals, Napoleon uses his nine attack dogs. Snowball, on the other hand, is intelligent and not as harsh as his enemy, Napoleon. Rather than intimidating other animals, Snowball is interested in winning their trust. While Napoleon represents Joseph Stalin, Snowball's character is based on Leon Trotsky.

Which animal does most of the heavy labor?

Answer: Boxer does most of the heavy labor.

Explanation:

Boxer's personal motto is ''I will work harder!" He is certainly hard-working and dedicated, and is convinced that every problem can be solved through hard work. Boxer is portrayed as powerful but naive, and his character is an allegory for Russian working-class that contributed to the establishment of the Soviet Union, but ended up betrayed by Stalin.

What does Snowball try to teach the animals to do?

Answer: Snowball tries to teach the animals how to read and write.

Explanation:

Snowball organizes the animals into Animal Committees that have different goals. There is, for instance, the Clean Tails League, and Re-education Committee. The goal of the latter is to re-educate the rats and rabbits. Snowball does succeed in his plan to teach the animals how to read and write, although other committees generally fail to achieve their goals. The pigs, for example, learn to fluently read and write.

What is the name of the incident in which Farmer Jones tries to retake the farm?

Answer: The Battle of the Cowshed.

Explanation:

In Chapter 4, the Battle of the Cowshed takes place. One day, the animals are working when they notice Mr. Jones and his men entering the gates of the farm. The animals realize that the men came to retake the farm by force. Snowball has already prepared a defense plan based on a book about Julius Caesar's strategy, so he eventually defeats the humans with only one animal death as a result. Mr. Jones has no other option but to flee the farm and never come back.

The ugly words settled in Mr. Shiftlet’s head like a group of buzzards in the top of a tree. How does the simile in the sentence
MaRussiya [10]

Answer:

2. The image emphasizes that Mr. Shiftlet lives in an uncaring world.

Explanation:

Flannery O'Connor's short story "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" is part of the numerous short stories collection "A Good Man is Hard to Find". The story revolves around the character of Tom Shiflet and his acts in trying to survive the world, cheating Lucynell and her mother.

Similes are literary devices that compares words with another directly, a bit different from a metaphor (Metaphors compare things indirectly related). This simile in the sentence compares the words spoken by the old woman Lucynell to that of "a group of buzzards in the top of a tree". The "ugly words" of Mrs. Lucynell was that Shiflet was "a poor disabled friendless drifting man", but she also considers him capable enough to be her daughter's husband. This way of addressing him by the woman who expects him to marry her daughter shows that the world or society he lives in doesn't have much care about others, everyone for themselves.
