Allotment, the federal policy of dividing communally held Indian tribal lands into individually owned private property, was the culmination of American attempts to destroy tribes and their governments and to open Indian lands to settlement by non-Indians and to development by railroads.Also known as the General Allotment Act, the law allowed for the President to break up reservation land, which was held in common by the members of a tribe, into small allotments to be parceled out to individuals. Thus, Native Americans registering on a tribal "roll" were granted allotments of reservation land.

<span>There are such great differences in the wages and salaries paid to different people because a worker's human capital is the greatest determinant of his or her wage or salary. Each person's human capital is valued according to the amount of education and training that person had throughout their life. So it is only natural that a person with two PhDs should have a higher salary that those who've only finished high school. </span>
