In the novel, The Outsiders, why would being paralyzed and/or wheelchair-bound be worse for johnny than for someone else?
Sergeeva-Olga [200]
Remember, Johnny came from a terrible household. His parents either beat him, or ignored him. If Johnny became crippled, he wouldn't be able to come and go from that house as he pleased, which means he has to stay in that home where he was hated and unwanted.

Here is the excerpt from the novel:

"Even if Johnny did live he'd be crippled and never play football or help us out in a rumble again. He'd have to stay in that house he hated, where he wasn't wanted, and things could never be like they used to be. I didn't trust myself to speak. If I said one word, the hard knot in my throat would swell and I'd be crying in spite of myself." (Hinton, 87).

Abraham Lincoln once said, " Nearly all men can stand adversity*, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." Wh
andreyandreev [35.5K]
My reaction to this quote is that Abraham Lincoln is referring to the ideal that once people have power they tend to abuse it for their advantage, and personal gain. For Example, gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is the manipulation of the county sizing and grouping in states by the Legislative branch to guarantee their reelection into federal or state offices. A typically Democratic city perhaps may be grouped or redrawn to conjoin with a vastly Republican populated area, creating a larger group of supporters of one party, and a polarized county.

Authors often include multiple themes in a literary work. What theme might be suggested by the evidence in these lines 10-11?
lions [1.4K]
The theme that might be suggested by the evidence in these lines 10-11 is bewilderment and confusion. Confusion because he is shocked as to why this transformation overnight happened to him without knowing how. Bewilderment because he panicked as to why his transformation does not suit to where he lives.

In 2–3 complete sentences, thoroughly explain the theme of your Module One short story. What message or big idea does the author
weqwewe [10]

Answer:

Difficult times can make someone lie.

Explanation:

In the story 'Condensed Milk', the author tries to communicate the idea that it is alright to lie when someone has bad intentions towards you. Though no specific phrase mentions this idea, we can understand through the whole story that the author did what was best for him which was by lying to Shestakov that he would go along with him if he bring him food. It was such a difficult time for him that he had to lie just to get some food.

The lines " 'You know,’ I said, carefully licking the spoon, ‘I changed my mind. Go without me.’" and "I mean, after all, two cans of condensed milk aren’t such a big deal." presents the idea that he lied to him because the escape plan was devised and he just wanted some food.
