In some parts of Europe, they collected taxes and Church earned a lot of money to stength its power and influenced. This way, they could exert a heavy influence in <em>rulers</em> and reigns. No one wanted to go to hell, so with the supervision of the Church and a better life after death in heaven, Church was a very powerful influence in medieval times.
