Since we do not have the answer choices, the general answer below will help you choose the best definition for the word "epithet" as it is used in the excerpt:

Since the excerpt is about calling someone epithets such as "dear", we can conclude that "epithet" means a nickname, or an adjective that describes someone.

This question asks us to pay attention to context clues to figure out the meaning of a word.

A context clue is a piece of information given by an author that helps us understand the meaning of words in the text.

In this case, the context clue is the speaker calling the other person "dear", saying there is no lovelier epithet than this one.

With that information, we can conclude that an "epithet" is a nickname or an adjective we use to address others, usually expressing a characteristic of that person.

Answer:

Explanation:

Dear uncle,

I hope you are doing well and that you are healthy! How have you spent your quarantine? While it was a little hard to be in the house and worry about what will happen, <u>I have tried to spend my time in quarantine as best as I could.</u>

I have been reading a lot, and have managed to read five books so far. They are mostly young adult fiction that is concerned with the problems of the modern world, but I read some fantasy books as well. As you know, I have always enjoyed fantasy and now <u>I finally have the time to read it.</u>

I also spent time in the garden, helping my mother with flowers – this was very relaxing and beneficial, as we got to be out in the sun without putting anyone in danger. In the evening, we would often watch movies or play board games as a family. I have even won a few games of monopoly! I tried not to get behind on my studies, and have read textbooks just as teachers advised us. <u>Online classes are a great way to keep up with school work.</u> It’s not always easy to do the work, but I study hard and do all the homework on time.

As mum cooks every day, I learned some of the tricks in the kitchen from her. Now I can make the meal on my own! I learned how to fry an egg, how to bake potatoes, how to prepare meat, and make cookies. These days, I sometimes prepare the meal for the family myself and everyone is enjoying it. Can’t wait to serve you some of my delicious cooking in the future!

The creative work really helps, so I sometimes do art and draw and paint with my sister. As she is younger than me, her art is not that good, but she is learning fast. It is great to be able to show her something new and help her pass the time. I love it so much that I finally spend so much time with the family.

When I want to spend some time alone, I play video games. There are some great ones that are educational as well as fun. I mostly like historical and strategy games where I can build my cities and armies. This made me more interested in history, so I started reading about Greek mythology and history. There is so much fun stuff and I am sure it will help me with the school as well.

As you can see, I try to keep myself organized and occupied, and spend time with others. It helps me a lot when you have someone to have fun with. Who knew there are so many fun hobbies we could pursue without leaving our house?

Maybe my letter gave you some ideas on how to spend your time!

I hope to hear from you soon!

Loads of love,

Your niece/nephew.

Which phrase describes facts and details that an author states directly in a text? (1 point)
m_a_m_a [10]

The phrase that describes facts and details that an author states directly in a text is;

  • Explicit information

The facts and details that an author directly states in a text are explicit information. Explicit information is plainly described to the audience leaving no room for guessing or deductions.

Implicit pieces of information are those that require the audience to make guesses or interpretations based on the few pieces of information provided.

If, for example, the author states; <em>"That leader was a dictator who had no love for the people", </em>he has provided explicit information. We do not have to interpret the character of the leader.

It is revealed plainly in this piece of information.
