The President Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, who took office on March 4, 1801, was surrounded with people who share the same views, for instance, after getting rid of most federal taxes, and reducing the national debt as well as cutting down on military expenses, Jefferson administration including his secretary of the treasury, only collected customs duties which are taxes collected on imported goods.
