I know the answer is -57 but why?

The answer is 9. You get this by using the order of operations.
First complete the numbers in the first set of parentheses.
-6-2= -8
now you have 14+{−2+3[1+3-8]}
Then complete the next part in the next set of parentheses. Use the order of operations (pemdas)
1+3-8= -4
Now you have 14+{−2+3-4}
complete everything in the last set of parentheses.
-2+3-4= -5
you are now left with 14-5
