Suppose that 100,000 men were screened for prostate cancer for the first time. Of these, 4,000 men had a positive result on the

screening blood test; of those who tested positive, 800 had a biopsy indicating a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Among the remaining 96,000 men who screened negative, 100 developed prostate cancer within the following year and were assumed to be false negatives to the screen. a) set-up the two-by-two table for this data. (please provide an actual table) b) what is the prevalence of prostate cancer in this population? c) calculate and interpret the sensitivity of this screening test d) calculate and interpret the specificity of this screening test. e) Calculate and interpret the positive predictive value of this screening test.

An actual two-by-two table is a tabular representation containing two rows and two columns.

  • The columns consist of the tested True positive for prostate cancer and tested True Negative for prostate cancer
  • The rows consist of the predicted positive screening and predicted negative values

<h3>a)</h3>

Mathematically, the set-up of the two-by-two table for this data can be computed as:

Tested                  True Positive for cancer   True Negative    Total

Predicted Positive         800                            3200                 4000

Predicted Negative        100                            95900              96000

Total                                900                            99100              100000

<h3>b)</h3>

The prevalence rate of prostate cancer in this population is:

\mathbf{ =\dfrac{900}{100000}}

\mathbf{ =\dfrac{9}{1000}}

= 9 per thousand.

<h3>c)</h3>

The calculation of the sensitivity of this screening is as follows:

\mathbf{=\dfrac{TP}{TP+PN_1}}

where;

  • TP = True positive for cancer
  • PN₁ = Predicted Negative for true positive cancer

∴

\mathbf{=\dfrac{800}{800+100}}

= 0.889

= 88.9%

The interpretation shows that 88.9% are correctly identified to be actual positive for prostate cancer.

<h3>d)</h3>

The calculation of the specificity  of this screening is as follows:

\mathbf{=\dfrac{PN_2}{PN_2+TN}}

where;

  • TN = True positive for cancer
  • PN₂ = Predicted Negative for true negative cancer

∴

\mathbf{=\dfrac{95900}{95900+3200}}

= 0.9677

= 96.77%

The interpretation shows that 96.7% of an actual negative is correctly identified as such.

<h3>e)</h3>

The positive predicted value of the screening test is computed as:

\mathbf{= \dfrac{TP}{TP + TN}}

\mathbf{= \dfrac{800}{800 + 3200}}

= 0.2

= 20%

The interpretation of the positive predicted value of this screening shows that 20% that are subjected to the diagnosis of positive prostate cancer truly have the disease.

Supply and demand are powerful forces in a free market.
maxonik [38]

Answer: Some of the factors that causes a shift in the demand and supply curves are;

(1) Income of the consumers

(2) Change in consumers’ preferences

(3) Price of substitute commodities

(4) Population

Step-by-step explanation: A shift in the demand or the supply curve means a complete movement of the entire curve either to the left or to the right (it must not be confused with a ‘SHIFT ALONG THE DEMAND CURVE’).

One of the factors responsible for this is a change in the income of consumers, because when the consumers’ income increases slightly their purchasing power increases thereby their total quantity demanded would experience an increase.

Also when the taste or preference of the consumers change, it would translate into a different demand entirely. That is, if the consumers begin to have a preference for a brand of a commodity, it simply means they will increase their demand for that commodity and demand less for the one currently being purchased. In other words, the demand curve for the preferred commodity would shift to the right (increase), while the demand curve for the less preferred one would shift to the left (decrease).

Another factor is price of close substitutes. As one commodity is being demanded, another commodity that can satisfy the same purpose is also being demanded. However, the demand for one is usually higher than the other. So if the price for a substitute becomes less, consumers would tend towards that one and the demand for the preferred one would shift to the left. Take detergents for example, if the price of detergent ABC falls low, and consumers have been buying detergent XYZ all along, provided detergent ABC washes clean like XYZ, the demand for ABC would increase and would be depicted as a shift to the right.

Yet another factor is population of the consumers, and this is so because as the population of consumers increases in the market, the total quantity demanded also increases, thereby resulting in a shift in the market demand. It is very important to note that these factors equally apply to the shifts in the supply curves as well.

A rhinoceros weight when rounded to the nearest thousand was 4,000 pounds. Which of these is the least the rhinoceros could have
Rudik [331]

Answer:

B- 3,500.

Step-by-step explanation:

This is because 3,500 is the lowest number that can be rounded to 4,000.

3,999 and 4,001 can also be rounded but.. (let me show you an image to help).

3,500 < 3,999 < 4,001.

That goes from smallest to largest numbers that round to 4,000.

Hope that helps. x

vampirchik [111]

Answer:

a. Identify the population of interest in this study.

  • all the population of the country

b. Identify the sample for the study.

  • 50 adults (the ones that were surveyed)

c. Identify the parameter of interest in the study.

  • the parameter of interest is the people that believe that coffee shops are overpriced

d. Find and interpret a 95% confidence interval for the parameter of interest.

z score for a 95% confidence level = 1.96

margin of error (E) = z score x √{[0.4(1 - 0.4)] / 50} = 1.96 x 0.069282 = 0.13579

95% confidence level interval:

0.4 - 0.13579 = 0.26421

0.4 + 0.13579 = 0.53579

  • 95% confidence interval (0.26421 , 0.53579)

9 and 11 need help<br> Mark brainlist
zvonat [6]

I will do 9 only. You can do 11.

Question 9

sin(60) = x/8

sin(60)(8) = x

4•sqrt{3} = x

x^2 + y^2 = 8^2

(4•sqrt{3})^2 + y^2 = 64

16(3) + y^2 = 64

48 + y^2 = 64

y^2 = 64 - 48

y^2 = 16

sqrt{y^2} = sqrt{16}

y = 4

Do 11 the same way.
