\dfrac 17 x^2 + 1 = \dfrac 37 x\\\\\implies x^2 +7 =3x~~~;[\text{Multiply both sides by 7}]\\\\\implies x^2 -3x +7 =0\\\\\text{Apply quadratic formula}~ x = \dfrac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 -4ac}}{2a}.\\\\\text{In this case ,}~ a =1, b= -3 , c =7\\\\x = \dfrac{-(-3) \pm \sqrt{(-3)^2 - 4(1)(7}}{2(1)}\\\\\implies x= \dfrac{3 \pm \sqrt{-19}}{2}\\\\\implies x =\dfrac{ 3 \pm i\sqrt{19}}2\\\\\\\text{Smaller value of x } =\dfrac{ 3 -i\sqrt{19}}2\\\\\text{Larger value of x } =\dfrac{ 3 +i\sqrt{19}}2

The average height of 8 adults is 1.8 m. What is the sum of their heights? How do I work this out without a calculator?
Katen [24]
Well, the average of a sum of number is found by adding each given number and dividing that number by the amount of given numbers.
Example: 5+4+3+8=20
and 20/4 = 5, the average of the numbers
Multiply 1.8 by 8.0 using this format:

1.8
x8.0

Hope this helped

What is a real world problem for 2(n+20)=110
sashaice [31]

John

You went to the store to buy a gift for your friend. Jeans are 20 dollars (what a deal) so you buy one for yourself and your friend. Then you see this really cute top and you want to match with your friend, so you get two of those too.

The total on the bill is $110.

While walking to your car, you lose the receipt.

When you give your friend the gift, she is excited. But says you spent too much money on her! She wants to pay you back for the shirt, but you can't remember how much it cost
