Character vs. self is an example of internal conflict. Internal conflict deals with ones own conscience. It means that you either struggle with something morally or something very personal to you. It is almost as if you are at battle with yourself to do right or wrong. Something may also be plaguing someone, as in the thought of a suicide attempt.
