He compared Ernest with the other boys to show what makes a child loving and helpful, as shown in option A. This can be confirmed by the following passage:

"He spent his childhood in the log cottage where he was born and was dutiful to his mother and helpful to her in many things assisting her much with his little hands and more with his loving heart (option C.)."

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • The author shows how Ernest was different from the kids in the region.
  • He was a nice boy, kind, loving, and who liked to help his mother.
  • This personality came about because Ernest's mother always motivated and supported him, in addition to teaching him to participate in domestic activities.

This made Ernest different from the other boys and transformed him into someone more empathic and with a great capacity for reflection. Something that is not so common in people his age. This behavior makes Ernest a complex character with different layers.

That question is from the book "The Great Stone Face."

An example of allusion
Natasha_Volkova [10]
The verb form of “allusion” is “to allude.” So alluding to something is the same thing as making an allusion to it.

For example:

You’re acting like such a Scrooge!

Alluding to Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, this line means that the person is being miserly and selfish, just like the character Scrooge from the story.
