The colonists were justified in seceding because the parliament issued illegitimate legislation, such as the Stamp Act of 1765, the Townshend Act, and the Boston Massacre. As a result of all of this, the colonies banded together and rebelled against the British. The colonists disliked the parliament's unrestricted power and its capacity to impose taxes to collect income.
