Tryouts Kayla tried to ignore her sore throat and stuffy nose. She was trying out for the soccer team, and Coach Markham would p

ick only the twenty best players. Kayla sipped from her water bottle while she waited to do practice drills. She sneezed, and then Coach Markham signaled her to start. First, Kayla had to run across the field as fast as she could. She took off, but her stuffy nose made it hard to breathe. When she reached the end of the field, she felt dizzy and her head was swimming a little. She hoped the coach hadn't noticed. Next, she and another girl had to compete for control of the soccer ball. The other girl quickly stole the ball from Kayla. Kayla was surprised. She was usually good at this. For the first time, she worried that she might not make the team. Kayla struggled through the other drills, too. At the end of the tryout, she felt terrible and left as soon as she could. A few days later, Kayla had recovered from her cold. She was still worried about her performance at the tryout, but maybe it wasn't too late to do something about it. Kayla went to see Coach Markham. She explained that she hadn't done her best because of her cold. Coach Markham listened patiently and agreed to let Kayla join the team for the first practice. That was all Kayla wanted. She knew she would be a valuable member of the team. She just needed a chance to prove it. Which of the following best describes the main theme or lesson of the story?
a. Sometimes it pays to ask someone for a second chance.
b. Nothing is easy when you are sick
c. Never give up
d. No one likes to hear excuses

Answer:

C: In chronological order from the first action to the last.

Explanation:

Chronological order is one that demonstrate the linear order of instructions.

Linear order of the above involve following through from the first to the last action. An attempt to skip or sabotage a step affect the result in that it will end up unsuccessful or just as another waste of time. 1) A description of the set up that explains what happened before the scene.

A was very close to this guy that I had known since the sixth grade. We went to the same middle school and we were again close. Despite how close we were, we were just friends with no attraction towards each other. We were at the cafeteria; it was very spacious and long, and had a stage for our end-of-the-year party we have with our DJ. It was in fact, our end-of-the-year party and we were both hanging out with each other. It was a huge party. There was a disco ball and people were dancing to music. The two of us had ordered food from a nearby food truck and we ate together at one of the side tables when his friend approached us.

2) Diction that matches the characters.

I wore a white tank top with blue shorts and black converse. My friend from sixth grade wire a black T-shirt with black ripped jeans and sky blue sneakers. My friend's friend wore a pink dress with brown sandles.

3) Character objectives and obstacles are clearly conveyed.

Me and friend had just went there to have a good time since we are voth usually busy with school and homework. This was our only time to hang out together. My friend's friend came to us and asked him what he was doing with me, not knowing that we are friends.

4) A scene that escalates in dramatic intensity.

At the time, I did not know that they were dating. He focused on her and said that we are just hanging out. She looked at me and walked up to him and slapped him. Of course I was incredibly confused, but before I could say anything, she left right away. He didn't say anything except, "I have to go." We called it a night.

5) Diction that is appropriate to the audience.

The next day I asked him who she was and he told me everything, about how they were dating and how she thought he was cheating on her.

6-7) Words that are not wasted in idle chit chat. Action (stage directions) that enhance the scene.

I was on my way home one day and the girl came up to me and asked me what my relationship with him was. I tild her politely that we are just friends. She rolled her eyes at me and said that I was lying to her and threated to fight me. This turned into an argument. She was convinced that I wanted to go after her boyfriend and I told her that we are just friends from elementary school. The next few days, she followed me around the school harassing me all day. She would keep on telling me how she was going to fight me and how I was taking him away from her. The problem eventually got solved when I moved schools.
