Greg and Rowley have an interesting friendship, and Greg can be very mean to Rowley at times. At the end of the story, however, Greg doesn't tell anyone about Rowley eating the cheese and takes the fall for the cheese touch.

Greg is a dynamic character. Greg is not a dependable friend in the beginning. Greg is willing to stop being friends with Rowley because of how he acts. At the end of the story Greg is willing to embarrass himself to protect Rowley. Greg went from undependable and unsympathetic to trustworthy and considerate.
