B) Became the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire
Charlemagne was King of the Franks from 768, King of the Lombards from 774, and Holy Roman Emperor from 800. He joined a lot of western and central Europe amid the Early Middle Ages. He was the principal perceived ruler to control from western Europe since the fall of the Western Roman Empire three centuries earlier. The extended Frankish express that Charlemagne established is known as the Carolingian Empire. He was later consecrated by Antipope Paschal III.
