Jason is reading Romeo and Juliet and is interested in planning a short research project to explore the popularity of the theate

r during Shakespeare’s time.
Read this information about the Globe Theater from an Internet source and answer the question.

The Elizabethan general public (the Commoners) referred to as groundlings would pay 1 penny to stand in the ‘Pit’ of the Globe Theater. The gentry would pay to sit in the galleries often using cushions for comfort! Rich nobles could watch the play from a chair set on the side of the Globe stage itself. Theatre performances were held in the afternoon, because, of course, there was no artificial lighting. Men and women attended plays, but often the prosperous women would wear a mask to disguise their identity.

QUESTION: In order to understand which aspects of the Globe Theater’s seating reflected Elizabethan society, Jason’s readers would most likely require further information because _____.

A. readers would have little knowledge of the opportunities for comfort afforded by patrons of the Globe Theater
B. readers would require further explanation about the separation of nobles and commoners during Shakespeare’s time
C. without additional details about the time period, readers would not be likely to understand why masks were worn by some women
D. without background information, readers would remain uncertain about the difficulties of selling tickets for afternoon performances only
