The narrator's state of mind after the murder in my opinion would be different from other people's state of mind, because further in the story when he senses the ringing in his ears, he senses the beating of the dead man's heart. So that means that what this suggests out of the character is that he is probably melancholy.
The narrator was very paranoid of the evil eye the old man had and after committing the murder and dismembering the body he felt sound for a bit then began to feel paranoid again when the policemen came to the house
