According to scholasticism, truth is God's WILL.

Perhaps the scholastic teacher most associated with this idea was John Duns Scotus (1266-1308).  We might call him "John from Duns, the Scotsman."  (That's what his name means - he was from the town of Duns on the Scottish border with England.)  Voluntarism was the philosophical idea championed by John Duns Scotus -- from <em>voluntas</em><em>, </em>Latin for "will."  The teaching held that whatever God wills (desires) is always true.  Therefore, truth and God's will are synonymous.

"Scholasticism" was the name applied to the theological and philosophical tradition of the "schoolmen" or university scholars in the Middle Ages.  Later on,  the reformer Martin Luther criticized some of the core teachings of the scholastics--the university teachers of theology.  A central scholastic assertion was that if you "do what is in you" (<em>fac quod in te est, </em>as they said it in Latin), following that spark of God's will in you would gain you favor with God.  Luther fought against scholastic  philosophy with his emphasis on salvation coming solely by grace from God.  The grace of God became a higher emphasis in Luther's theology, as opposed to the "will of God" emphasis in scholasticism.

What inference can you make about the reason Arturo dislikes the title of Abuelo’s story in "an hour with Abuelo"?
Tamiku [17]

Answer:

D. Arturo does not think people should just accept whatever life throws at them.

Explanation:

Judith Ortiz Cofer's short story "A Hour With Abuelo" is about a young boy's visit to his grandfather who stays in a nursing home. When he went there, he was told a story by his abuelo who recalled his earlier life.

Even before the young boy heard the story, he had heard his mother say the phrase "<em>Así es la vida"</em>about her grandfather and he had always hated it. For he thinks that one should do what one loves and not let someone else/ life decide it for them. When he heard the story of his abuelo, he also heard the same words, his grandfather saying that it was the title of his life story. He again hated the title for his belief of doing whatever he wants, going after his aim and not letting life dictate the way he live his life. He thinks that people should not just simply accept whatever life throws at them.

Which narrative point of view is shown in the passage?
erma4kov [3.2K]

Answer:

Third person omniscient point of narration.

Explanation:

The narrative point of view refers to the voice of the narration used, the 'eye' of the narrator through which the readers are seeing the story unfold. This voice is the window through which the outside world, the readers, gain access to the characters and the plot of the story, and be a part of it.

The easiest way to know or identify the narrative voice is to observe the use of the pronouns. Here, the narrator uses "he", "she", "him", "his", "her" a lot. Moreover, the narrator seems to be detached from the whole scene, suggesting he's not part of the story. Also, the ability to see through the feelings and emotions of all of the characters involved makes the narrator an omniscient voice.

Thus, the narrative voice is third-person omniscient. This is when the <u>narrator is not a character in the story and is privy to the feelings and emotions of all the characters</u>.
