Answer:

Nuclear energy, also called atomic energy, is obtained from the fission of the enriched uranium atom nucleus, releasing a large amount of energy. Nuclear energy holds together the nucleus particles of an atom. The division of this nucleus into two parts releases a large amount of energy.

This energy source is responsible for much controversy and distrust: the lack of security, the disposal of atomic waste, and the possibility of accidents in the plants, cause the disapproval of the use of nuclear energy by most of the population.

Disadvantages of nuclear power (if not handled with extreme caution)

  • Waste produced by nuclear energy is very dangerous.
  • For both health and the environment in general. Radioactive waste is very polluting, deadly and takes thousands of years to degrade, which makes its management very delicate. In fact, it's a problem we haven't solved yet.
  • Accidents can be very serious.
  • Nuclear power plants are equipped with great safety measures, but accidents can occur and in this case they can be very serious.
  • For both natural disasters and terror acts, a nuclear power plant is a target that can do enormous damage if it is destroyed or damaged.

The rods originally contain the fuel for nuclear reactions, which mean they are highly radioactive. The radiation they emit is very dangerous and harmful to all types of life; therefore, they must be handled with care and disposed of properly to minimize damage because of them.

Paraphin [41]

Answer:

B

Explanation:

This ensures that the research is corroborated by other scientists and is peer-reviewed hence increasing the veracity of the findings. This also ensures that conflict of interest is addressed whereby the findings by the company may appear to be compromised or biased because such a finding would be in favour of their own needs (such as financial gain). Peer review in such case is even more important because it involves humans subjects and ethics are paramount in healthcare research.

What part of the respiratory tract is considered the respiratory zone?
Lorico [155]

Answer:

D. Alveoli

Explanation:

Functionally, the respiratory system is separated into a conducting zone and respiratory zone:

Conducting zone consists of the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles. These structures form a continuous passageway for air to move in and out of the lungs.

Respiratory zone is found deep inside the lungs and is made up of the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, and alveoli. These thin-walled structures allow inhaled oxygen (O2) to diffuse into the lung capillaries in exchange for carbon dioxide (CO2).

The respiratory zone begins where the terminal bronchioles join a respiratory bronchiole, the smallest type of bronchiole, which then leads to an alveolar duct, opening into a cluster of alveoli.

What is the purpose of genetically modified crops?
Sliva [168]

Answer:

The purpose of genetically modified crops is increasing the food supply.

Explanation:

When crops are attacked by pests the yield of the crops reduces. The natural pest tackling adaptations of the plant is not just enough to check the invasion of crops by pests. Introducing feature of pest resistance into the genes of plant species will make them pest resistant.

Genetic modification is the method used to achieve this objective. In genetic modification a previously absent feature is introduced into a plant species by various scientific techniques. This feature can be pest resistance, chemical resistance, improved nutrient profile etc.
