The Commitment of 1850 is a set of five bills passed by the United States Congress in September 1850, which appeased a political confrontation between slave states and free states. This crisis, which lasted five years, had its origin in the disagreement on the status that territories acquired after the US intervention in Mexico (1846-1848) should receive and reached its maximum degree of tension with the problem of fugitive slaves. in those years.

In short, of the three new territories annexed by the United States, California became a free state while Utah and New Mexico became slave territories. The commitment was welcomed with relief, although on each side he disliked some specific clauses.

The Southerners prevented the adoption of the Wilmot Amendment which prohibited slavery in any Mexican territory acquired during the war and thus in the new territories of Utah and New Mexico slavery was allowed by appealing to the principle of popular sovereignty as a method to avoid Wilmot Amendment and decide if it was allowed within the borders of these new territories. In practice, these lands were inappropriate for agricultural plantations and their colonization was not properly of slave origin.

1. The federal government prohibits racial segregation in public schools. What is the legal basis for this prohibition, and why
Black_prince [1.1K]

Answer:

Explanation:

1.

The main legal basis for this prohibition is to put an end to racial segregation. This prohibition was as a result of the supreme court's ruling of 1954 in the case of Brown vs. Board where it was ruled that racial segregation in public schools, and separation of schools based on race or colour was unconstitutional as it violates the fourteenth amendment law of the United states that afford individual the right of equal protection under law.

2.

According to constitutional standards, Federal laws are responsible for the education of all citizens and provides support for all public schools where anyone is able to attend. However, the Federal law prohibited the spending of government funds on religious schools (based neutrality principle) noting that they are a private industry. The first Amendment allows individuals right to freedom of religion and prohibits the government from institutionalising a particular religion. This by implication no aid can br given to a particular religious school

quzilet Which of the following statements is true of corruption? Group of answer choices It is based on products and services.
castortr0y [4]

Answer:

C). It causes misallocation of resources.

Explanation:

Corruption is elucidated as the abuse of power by the people in authority/power for personal benefits. They seem to display illegal conduct like bribery, wickedness, impurity, depravity, etc. which impairs the values of morality, virtue, and integrity.

As per the question, option C asserts a true claim about corruption that 'it causes misallocation of resources' because people in power tend to display a fraudulent behavior and thus, exercise control over the resources which leads to exploitation of the resources of the ones who are being ruled or dominated by these. This abusive use of power leads to widening the gap of unequal resource allocation among the people and therefore, the one in power consumes more than required while the others are born and die in poverty. Hence, option C is the correct answer.
