Lines 1 through 12 contribute to the poem by showing imagery that helps the reader understand the urgency of the situation, as shown in option F.

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • The first stanza of the poem, composed of lines 1 to 12, presents very descriptive language, with strong use of imagery.
  • Imagery allows the reader to perceive the feeling of anxiety and urgency that will be established in the poem.
  • This is because the first stanza uses the imagery to make the reader realize how a knight is urgently asking for reinforcements to prevent the region from being attacked.

Imagery allows the reader's senses to be heightened and he or she to feel what is being described in the poem. This is highlighted in the lines:

<em>"Sound of a horseman riding hard </em>

<em>Clatter of hoofs in the manor yard </em>

<em>Feet on the steps and a knock resounding </em>

<em>As a fist struck wood with a mighty pounding."</em>

Which best states how the author develops the character in this excerpt?
vova2212 [387]

I have found this question online, and it is about the short story "The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," by Mark Twain. The excerpt is long for me to post here, but it begins with the story told by Simon Wheeler, one of the characters.

Answer:

The option that best states how the author develops the character in this excerpt is:

A. with the use of dialect.

Explanation:

When it comes to literature, dialect is related to how the author portrays the characters' speech. Many authors choose to write words with an uncommon spelling just to show that that is the way the character pronounces them. For instance, in books by Zora Neale Hurston, what should be "I" was spelled as "Ah" to emphasize pronunciation.

<u>The same happens in this short story by Mark Twain. The excerpt we are analyzing here uses dialect to reveal more about the character. For example, Wheeler says "feller" instead of "fellow". Twain wants readers to know that Wheeler is a simple man, in contrast with the narrator of the story who is an educated man and who uses a very different (formal) dialect from Wheeler.</u>

According to Miller, why has The Crucible become his most-produced play?
matrenka [14]

According to Arthur Miller, <em>The Crucible</em> has become his most-produced play because most people see the story as their own. It is about witch-hunt in Salem and the trials that took place there in 1692. Miller compares in the play these witch trials with the ones that took place in the U.S.  People feared being accused of having communist ideas by the McCarthyism without proper evidence. There was an anti-communist rage that reached tremendous proportions, there was not just a hunt for subversive people, but for ideas. Miller himself was prosecuted and convicted. <em>The Crucible</em> is one of the surviving fragments of the McCarthy period.
