The United States had wanted to make it look as if the Liliuokalani gave up her right to rule to avoid revolts by the Hawaii people.

She was the ruler of the Hawaii people. The last ruler of the territory just before it became a territory of the United States.

She fought against annexation when the US wanted to annex the Hawaii territory.

She was arrested for staging a coup. After she was arrested she finally agreed to dissolve the monarchy.
