What is Thorstein Veblen's argument in The Theory of the Leisure Class?.

Answer:

Veblen argues that the selection of institutions affects the selection of people within society. Institutions change fast, so although only the fittest habits of thought will normally survive, the selection of people cannot keep up. Further, changes which may be good for society as a whole may be bad for certain people. Veblen’s discussion provides a nice picture of a dynamic environment and selection pressures that vary with it.

Despite this dynamism, society is slow to change and conservative. Veblen argues that the leisure class is able to keep society conservative through withdrawing the means of sustenance to the industrial class. As a result, the industrial class does not have the resources to invest in new ideas and habits. Even if they did gain some surplus, that would be wasted on the conspicuous consumption that the leisure class has established as the societal norm.

The argument of Thorstein Veblen in the Theory of the Leisure Class is regarding the impact of the selection of institutions over the selection of people from society as a whole.

Who was Thorstein Veblen?

Thorstein Veblen was a famous sociologist and economist who wrote the book The Theory of the Leisure Class. He wrote about the relationship between the economy, culture, and society.

Argument

The argument by him was because the rapid increase in the speed to institutions with the fittest habits will only be able to survive. This cannot be affected by the selection of people. This means that the selection of institutions is an independent variable while the selection of people is the dependent variable.

Along with the argument, he also argued that the leisure class is able to maintain the society conservations due to which the industrial class does not have many resources to invest in the new ideas and habits.

Suppose a classmate claims that the reason he knows nothing about politics is rational ignorance. What does he mean
lidiya [134]

Answer:

He meant that he doesn't know anything about politics because he doesn't want to try to understand about it, preferring to keep non-knowledge and, therefore, rational ignorance.

Explanation:

Rational ignorance is the term that refers to the human being's ability to keep believing in a wrong or insufficient concept, as he does not want to bear the search for information and the costs to better inform himself about this concept and understand it efficiently, that is, to an individual in a rational way and by his own choice, he prefers to remain ignorant about a certain subject.

In this case, when someone says that he does not know anything about politics because of rational ignorance, it means that he knows that his knowledge of politics is insufficient, but he or she prefers to continue like this, because he does not want to be informed about politics.

A long-run effect of increasing the money supply can be inflation.
Ahat [919]

Answer:

The given statement is true

Explanation:

When the supply of money rises, the aggregate demand also increases for the products. It, therefore promotes variance in prices to the positive side over a long period that later leads to output increase.

To determine the link that exists between money and the supplies is through simplification of the output, which does not change. The assumption, therefore, is essential in isolating money impact specifically on prices. However, this can be adjusted subsequently in fixing the output.

Reading rhetorically means reconstructing the text's original context, identifying the author's original purpose, and_______.
fenix001 [56]

Answer:

When we read rhetorically, we are moving beyond simply trying to comprehend what an author is saying at a basic level. Instead, one who reads rhetorically seeks to understand how meaning in a text is shaped not only by the text itself, but also the context.
