The Indian Relocation Act of 1956 is also known as Public Law 959 or the Adult Vocational Training Program. The three intended purposes of the Indian Relocation Act of 1956 are;

  • To provide job training for  Native Americans, primarily  in industry.
  • To help Native Americans  settle in urban areas
  • To provide new reservations for  Native Americans in better  locations.

This was known to be a paid moving expenses and provided vocational training to Native Americans. This are set up for the people who were willing to move off the reservation into urban areas.

The United States law aim to encourage Native Americans in the United State to leave Indian reservations and adopt into the population in urban areas.
