The Homestead Act was able to influence US expansion because the act prepared available land in the West for planting.
The Homestead Act was signed into law by Abraham Lincoln and it gave Americans a lot of land in the West as long as they would stay on this land and farm or develop it in some way.
This led to many Americans flocking west to plant on these lands and led to the US being able to expand further westward.
