This excerpt has Frost comparing the image of the sun in girls hair to sunlight hitting the leaves of a tree.

The image of the bent-over birch trees shows how the constitution of the trees has been bent and changed by the force of winter.
One way Gregor's family earns money is that they all get jobs. His father is working as a bank messenger, his mother gets a job sewing, and his sister is working as a salesgirl. They also do other things like sell all of the jewelry in order to make some more money to pay for their apartment.
