In psychology and memory, code refers to the process that makes possible to convert information into a construct that is stored in memory and that can be remembered later. This process can occur in different ways including structural coding, elaborative coding, etc. In the case of semantic encoding. this encoding occurs when new information is encoded and store based on the context meaning or by associating meaning to a specific context. An example occurs when an acronym is used to remember a piece of more complex information as in this case the acronym serves a context to remember the complex information. This also occurs in the case of Jack as his strategy for understanding and then remembering a word is to place it in a sentence or context and then remember the word based on the association meaning to the context. Therefore, Jack encoding is an example of semantic encoding.
