How did the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 affect voter registration rates in the United States in the decades that followed?

It helped increase the registration of black voters by giving them the right to vote.  It has gone through several amendments to remove unfair that require blacks to register.  It also provided protection for blacks who were going to go out and vote.  As a result, more and more blacks went out and casts their vote.
