Solve the math problem

Mathematics
1 answer:
Bas_tet [7]3 years ago
7 0

Step-by-step explanation:

we cannot "solve" it, as we don't know anything about y or k, by we can "simplify" it.

as multiplication is commutative, we can split the whole expression into multiplication factors, simplify each factor, and then out the results back together as one large multiplication.

and remember for the simplification of exponents, multiplying terms with the same base means adding the exponents, dividing terms with the same base means subtracting the denominator exponent from the numerator exponent.

and a^-b = 1/(a^b).

so, we could see the main expression as

(-4/-8)×(y⁶/y⁹)×(k²/k⁵)

(-4/-8) = 1/2

(y⁶/y⁹) = y^-3 = 1/y³

(k²/k⁵) = k^-3 = 1/k³

because e.g.

y⁶/y⁹ = (y×y×y×y×y×y)/(y×y×y×y×y×y×y×y×y) = 1/(y×y×y)

putting the results back together gives us

1/2 × 1/y³ × 1/k³ = 1/(2y³k³)

6) There are many cylinders with a height of 4 inches.
diamong [38]

Answer:

Please check the explanation.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

height of cylinder h = 4 inches

Given the table

Radius          Volume

1                     ___

2                    ___

3                    ___

Determining the Volume of the cylinder when r = 1 inch and h = 4 inches

Given

h = 4 inches

r = 1 inch

Using the formula to determine the volume of the cylinder

V = πr²h

V = 3.14×(1)²×(4)

V = 3.14 × 1 × 4

V = 12.56

V ≈ 13  (nearst cubic inch)

Therefore, the volume of cylinder when h = 4 inches and r = 1 inch will be:

V ≈ 13 cubic inches (nearest cubic inch)

Determining the Volume of the cylinder when r = 2 inches and h = 4 inches

Given

h = 4 inches

r = 2 inch

Using the formula to determine the volume of the cylinder

V = πr²h

V = 3.14×(2)²×(4)

V = 3.14 × 4 × 4

V = 50.24

V ≈ 50  (nearst cubic inch)

Therefore, the volume of cylinder when h = 4 inches and r = 2 inches will be:

V ≈ 50 cubic inches (nearest cubic inch)

Determining the Volume of the cylinder when r = 3 inches and h = 4 inches

Given

h = 4 inches

r = 3 inch

Using the formula to determine the volume of the cylinder

V = πr²h

V = 3.14×(3)²×(4)

V = 3.14 × 9 × 4

V = 113.04

V ≈ 113  (nearst cubic inch)

Therefore, the volume of cylinder when h = 4 inches and r = 3 inches will be:

V ≈ 113 cubic inches (nearest cubic inch)

Therefore, we complete the table conclude such as:

Radius          Volume

1                     13

2                    50

3                    113

Solve for x in the equation x squared minus 10 x + 25 = 35.
atroni [7]

Answer:

x = 5 ± \sqrt{35}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

x² - 10x + 25 = 35 ( subtract 25 from both sides )

x² - 10x = 10

Using the method of completing the square

add ( half the coefficient of the x- term )² to both sides

x² + 2(- 5)x + 25 = 10 + 25

(x - 5)² = 35 ( take the square root of both sides )

x - 5 = ± \sqrt{35} ( add 5 to both sides )

x = 5 ± \sqrt{35}

That is the second option on list

A ride-share company has a fee that includes a fixed cost and a cost that depends on both the time spent travelling, in minutes,
zlopas [31]

Answer:

the cost of Roy's ride is $23.05

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the Question,

Let, Cost of per minute charge is 'x' & Cost Of Per Kilometre charge is y .

  • Given, A ride-share company has a fee of the fixed cost of a ride is $2.55 .
  • And, The Total cost of the Ride depends on both the time spent on travelling(in minutes), and the distance travelled(in kilometres) .

⇒ Judy's ride costs $16.75 . but the actual cost after deducting the fixed charge is 16.75-2.55 = $14.20, took 8 minutes & The distance travelled was 10 km. Thus, the equation for the journey is 8x+10y=14.20 ⇒ Equ. 1

⇒ Pat's ride costs $30.35 . but the actual cost after deducting the fixed charge is 30.35-2.55 = $27.80, took 20 minutes & The distance travelled was 18 km. Thus, the equation for the journey is 20x+18y=27.80 ⇒ Equ. 2

Now, on Solving Equation 1 & 2, We get

x=0.4(Cost of per minute charge) & y=1.1(Cost Of Per Kilometre charge)

Now, Roy's ride took 10 minutes & The distance travelled was 15 km . Thus, the cost of Roy's Ride is 10x+15y ⇔ 10×0.4 + 15×1.1 ⇔ $20.5

Hence, the total cost of Roy's ride is 20.5 + 2.55(fixed cost) = $23.05
