What number is 5% of 220?

Since we don't know what number it is, we can use X.

The word "of" means multiply, so we can rewrite the problem.

<h2>X = 5% × 220</h2>

<h2>X = .05 × 220</h2><h2 /><h2>X = 11</h2>

It is easier (for me anyway) to find 10% then work around that.
Following that path would mean that, by making a table:

100% = 220
10% = 22
5% (Which is half the 10) = 11

Solve the equation 3x+x²=-7. Does the number of solutions match the information provided by the discriminant? Explain
MA_775_DIABLO [31]

Answer:

-\frac{3}{2}+\frac{\sqrt{19}i}{2} and -\frac{3}{2}-\frac{\sqrt{19}i}{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

3x+x^2=-7\\\Rightarrow x^2+3x+7=0

Discriminant

D=b^2-4ac\\\Rightarrow D=3^2-4\times 7\times 1\\\Rightarrow D=-19

If the discriminant is a negative number then the roots of the equation are imaginary

x=\frac{-b\pm \sqrtD}{2a}\\\Rightarrow x=\frac{-3\pm \sqrt{-19}}{2\times 1}\\\Rightarrow x=-\frac{3}{2}\pm \frac{\sqrt{19}i}{2}\\\Rightarrow x=-\frac{3}{2}+\frac{\sqrt{19}i}{2}, x=-\frac{3}{2}-\frac{\sqrt{19}i}{2}

So, the two solutions are -\frac{3}{2}+\frac{\sqrt{19}i}{2} and -\frac{3}{2}-\frac{\sqrt{19}i}{2}

Solve the following system of equations by substitution. PLEASE HELP!
BartSMP [9]

Answer:

(1,-1)

Step-by-step explanation:

y = -1

5x+7y = -2

Substitute the first equation into the second

5x + 7(-1) =-2

5x -7 = -2

Add 7 to each side

5x-7+7 = -2+7

5x= 5

Divide by 5

5x/5 = 5/5

x =1

(1,-1)
