So we know 48 are scored collectively between the two teams, let’s call team 3 “x” and let’s call 4 “y” just so it’s easier to visualise:
We are told that x+y=48
And also told y=3x
If we substitute that in we get
X+3x=48
Collect like terms to get
4x=48 then divide by 4 to get
X=12
We now know that team 3 scored 12 goals
And if team 4 scored 3 times as many we can do 3*12=36 so team 4 scored 36
To make sure it’s correct 36+12=48
Hope this helped :)

Together, two boys had 43 cents. The first boy spent 5 cents and the second boy spent 13 cents. The first boy’s remaining money

Hello kiddio lets figure this out!

Let x = first

y = second

Then

x - 5 = remainder of first

y - 13 = remainder of second

x - 5 = 2/3(y - 13)

3x - 15 = 2y - 26

3x - 2y = - 11................(1)

x + y = 43....................(2)

From (2) y = 43 - x..........(3)

Put (3) in (1)

3x - 2(43 - x) = - 11

3x - 86 + 2x = - 11

5x = 75

x = 15 cents

y = 43 - 15

= 28 cents
