<span>Lincoln wanted a unified union for example the Civil War was about freeing slaves but also keeping the union together. The South Carolina Ordinance as I understand it was brought up in part due to tariffs perceived to favor the north over the south. The ordinance opposed these tariffs and suggested succession from the Union.</span>
