Thoreau was a philosopher, a naturalist and author. These propose the things that were significant to him. One of his quotes are, “Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.”A philosopher means a person who is looking for truth. He felt that he needed freedom to follow his study of nature and to have a mind that was able, pure, and unique. So philosophy and independence were two of the many things that were significant to him. He could not rely on completely on wildlife and his own awareness for teaching. Another thing that was significant to him was his writing. He wrote lots of words and his printed writings fill twenty volumes. So this appears that the three things that were significant to him was nature, philosophy, and freedom.
