John Proctor displays honesty throughout the play which helped him achieve life; learning from his sins. In result it makes John Proctor an 'honest man' as insists of his sins yet moves on in life. A quote from John's testimony " I cannot mount the gibbet like a saint. It is a fraud. I am not that man..my honesty is broke, Elizabeth; I am no good man..." this quote indicates that John was an honest man; he had a way of saying that he made some sins on the way but he is honest about his wrong doings. Due to his rivals insisting he partakes in witchcraft, John can not fake a lie; as it is so in his blood not to lie, he ended up signing a confession stating that he would rather die than tolerate with this nonsense; of telling a lie so he can remain on earth.
