It was isolationist. The Americans were in the midst of rebuilding their economy that was now improving after the Great Depression and the effects of World War II. Many did not want to go to another war but after witnessing the atrocities committed by the Axis powers in Europe and Asia, they realize that it would only be a matter of time before they would be involved in the war. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor the U.S. officially joined the war on the side of the allies.

The foreign policy of the United States was ‘Isolationist’ at the start of World War II in 1939.

Further Explanation:-

When President Roosevelt joined the office as the president of the United States in 1933, his main concern was to bring the American economy back on track which was going through the great depression. Despite this, President Roosevelt always kept his eye on foreign affairs. He was a believer in strong and good international relations and always thought that having good relations with neighboring countries will solve almost half of American domestic issues. He believed that great depression could come to end by strengthening ties with foreign traders and foreign markets instead of weakening them. During the period of the 1930s, the United States entered the period of deep isolationism as it started rejecting international conferences and they focused mostly on tariff agreements along with smaller countries of Latin America. The American isolationists advocated of noninvolvement in European and Asian conflicts. Although, United States took various measures in order to avoid political and military conflicts internationally as it continued to expand economically to protect its interests in Latin America. The foreign policy of the United States was ‘Isolationist’ at the start of World War II in 1939.

There were at least three reasons why the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor
Ainat [17]

Answer: Lack of Power, Expansion, and Natural Resources.

Explanation: 1. Lack of power. Japan wasn’t as powerful as the U.S. so they had to fight with speed. By attacking Pearl Harbor the Japanese planned on halting the U.S.’s ability to fight against the Japanese by decreasing their power. Unfortunately for the Japanese, they failed to destroy the repair yards and refueling stations so the Pacific fleet was back up in no time. 2. Restriction of natural resources. Japan wanted to expand primarily to gain natural resources that the island of Japan did not naturally have. When the U.S. Congress restricted Japan’s access to oil and other natural resources vital to any war effort Japan was forced to act quickly to not be halted by an oil shortage. 3. Expansion. Japan wanted to expand its sphere of influence and garner those sweet sweet natural resources. The war in China had been costly and as a result, Japan began looking elsewhere to replenish its dwindling natural resources. One fun fact about WW2 is while the Holocaust is the primary topic in WW2 discussions those who know a little about the Japanese history will acknowledge the Rapé of Nanking as a brutal sacking of China’s then capital Nanking. Hope this helps!
