When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor the U.S. officially joined the war on the side of the allies.

Despite this, President Roosevelt always kept his eye on foreign affairs. He believed that great depression could come to end by strengthening ties with foreign traders and foreign markets instead of weakening them. The American isolationists advocated of noninvolvement in European and Asian conflicts.
