Answer:

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru. When the explorer Hiram Bingham III encountered Machu Picchu in 1911, he was looking for a different city, known as Vilcabamba. The big question is: how did it take so long to be discovered? The answer lies in the preventive measures the Incas took to avoid its discovery. The Incas left the site one hundred years after they made it in fear that the Spanish settlers would find it.
