Answer:

if you are simply hearing somebody, you know there talking. but if u only hear them if i were to ask u about that conversation an hour later u will likely not recall what they said but only recall that they were talking

if you are listening you are engaged in the conversation you know what they are saying and you will recall the conversation if asked about it later
