As you study two closely related predatory insect species, the two-spot and the three-spot avenger beetles, you notice that each

species seeks prey at dawn in areas without the other species. However, where their ranges overlap, the two-spot avenger beetle hunts at night and the three-spot hunts in the morning. When you bring them into the laboratory and isolate the two different species, you discover that the offspring of both species are nocturnal. You have discovered an example of ________.a. Batesian mimicry
b. mutualism
c. resource partitioning
d. character displacement

Answer:

d. Character displacement

Explanation:

Character displacement is the phenomenon in which the similar species living in the same geographical region with similar niches differentiate in order to reduce their niche overlap and avoid competitive exculsion. Just like in this case of two- spot and three -spot avenger beetles as their timmings for hunting is different where their ranges overlap. So it's the good example of character displacement,

Answer: The correct answer is option D

CHARACTER DISPLACEMENT

Explanation: Character displacement is a type of evolutionary change or divergence,in character displacement, two similar species inhabit the same environment. under such conditions, natural selection favors a divergence in the characters, morphology(forms), ecology (relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings), behaviors, or physiology (functions) of the organisms.

Character displacement is caused by when similar species that live in the same geographical region, occupying similar niches differentiate themselves so as to minimize/reduce niche overlap and avoid competitive exclusion/ behaviours among themselves.

From the explanation given, character displacement is clearly seen in the avenger beetles from the question.

Alina [70]

Answer: Because she used cold water

Explanation:

Tea leaves contain different flavors that dissolve in water to give it its distinct taste as well as its color. If water is hot, the flavors will dissolve quickly due to the fast movement of the heated water molecules.

If the water is cold however, as is the case in the above scenario, the flavors will take longer to dissolve in the water which means that the tea's color will not change drastically leading to a light tea.

Describe the effects of the various antibiotic drugs you used. Were they all equally effective at controlling bacterial growth?
Kipish [7]

Answer:

Basically, most antibiotic drugs are not effective in controlling bacterial growth. The potency of any antibiotic drugs is a measure of the magnitude of diameter of the bacterial growth . This is because the diameter is the measurement of the bacterial growth around the antibiotic drugs used to control it multiplication, and therefore a measure of how effective it can controls the population Thus a small diameter around the antibiotic agent is a proof that it suppressed the growth effectively and can effectively be used to control the bacteria, While a large diameter is an indication of low effectiveness of the drug.

Based on this analogy, penicillin with wide usage for control of bacteria growth with diameter of 3mm, is the most effective antibiotic drugs. However, Erythromycin which is also widely used control growth with diameter of 5mm or 6mm depending on type of bacterial.

Therefore, the least 3mm diameter presented by penicillin is an indication that , antibiotic drugs are not effective enough, and further research need to be done to control growth of bacteria and therefore its pathogenic effects.
