Fort Defiance was established in 1851 by Col. Edwin V. Sumner to set military presence. The Federal Government banned the Navajos to use or access this area. Consequently, they begun fighting, ending in two attacks: 1856 and 1860. In 1861, the army left Fort Defiance, but Brigadier General James H. Carleton continued fighting the Navajos.

The relationship between the Muslims and the Christians in the Iberian Peninsula since its conquering by the Muslims has been rather tense and bad in general.

Though there's certain period of partial peace during the Muslim rule of the peninsula, still, the peace was because of intimidation and force, as there were lot of Christians that were discriminated against and were killed, the same goes for the Jews as well.

Because of this, the Christians were constantly trying to break free from the Muslim Caliphate, and when they finally did, the Christians from this region became one of the most ''hard core'' followers of the faith. Also, the Christians from the Iberian Peninsula put a lot of effort in order to spread the religion as much as possible, which is very evident with the Christian populations in the Latin America region nowadays.

Thomas Jefferson (writer of the Declaration of Independence) and other American founding fathers got their ideas about natural rights from philosophers of the Enlightenment, such as John Locke (1632-1704).  Locke strongly argued that all human beings have certain natural rights which are to be protected and preserved.    Locke's ideal was one that promoted individual freedom and equal rights and opportunity for all.  Each individual's well-being (life, health, liberty, possessions) should be served by the way government and society are arranged.   The American founding fathers accepted the views of Locke and other Enlightenment thinkers and acted on them.

John Locke, in his<em> Second Treatise on Civil Government</em> (1690), expressed these ideas as follows.  Notice similarities to what is said in the Declaration of Independence (1776) ...
