George gets into a long conversation with Mr. Wilson and the topic they are speaking on is his "country". This leads into the metaphor, "What country have I, but the grave?George tells his belief that the slave is without a country. His only true home is his final resting place after hie dies. The emotion that George reveals is empathy. The grave metaphor is used to illustrate the idea that he won't be truly free until he has died and that the only American soil that can be considered free for African Americans is the soil of their graves.

2. Read the following passage and answer the question that follows.
Dmitry [639]
1. is the best choice
MLA citation requires that in parenthesis at the end of the reference, that the Author's last name be given, followed by the page number. This immediately eliminates choices 2 & 4. The main difference between 1 and 3 are that number 3 uses quotations to mark off the direct phrases from the passage. Although it does include important supporting details, it misses one of the key ideas, that of eating communal meals. Also, in shorter passages like this, the reference at the end demonstrates that a writer is using ideas from another person and the rest of number one is sufficiently paraphrased to avoid using quotations.
