Therefore:

Area of the shaded region=area of the square -area of a circle.

1) we compute the area of the square:
area of a square=side²

Data:
side=9 cm
Area of this square=(9 m)²=81 m².

2) we compute the area of a circle with 4.5 m of radius.

area of this circle=π(4.5 m)²=20.25π m²

3) we calculate the area of the shaded region:
area of the shaded region=area of the square - area of the circle
