One day Terah, his son Abraham and his clan set out from Ur on a long and difficult journey to a land that God would later give them. ... Later on God reveals this to Abraham, "I am Yahweh," He said to him, "who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to make you heir to this land." (Gen 15: 7).
He obeyed unquestioningly the commands of God, from whom he received repeated promises and a covenant that his “seed” would inherit the land. In Judaism the promised offspring is understood to be the Jewish people descended from Abraham's son, Isaac, born of his wife Sarah.
The purchase was negotiated by Livingston and others with France and added 530,000,000 acres to the United States. It was opposed by Federalists in the US.
