Union forces pursued the retreating army and cut them off at the Appomattox Court House. Upon being surrounded and realizing that he had no other choice, Lee surrendered. This marked the end of the Civil War. </span>

The Supreme Court agreed that the University’s use of racial quotas was against the Constitution and ordered the University to accept Bakke.
