Meteorology is defined as the study of the atmosphere, especially weather and climate. It is important to meteorology because it includes where storms usually occur, how they form, and what direction storms typically are going to go. Systems, how geographic systems and weather interact. A great example would be those early winter storms in the Great Lakes regions tend to get a great deal more snow because of lake effects. And climate, which is the study of atmospheric conditions and weather over a very long period of time.
