"My brother texted me that he was hit by a car while he was crossing the street yesterday! He’s lucky he wasn’t seriously hurt.

Unfortunately, he was so shocked and shaken that he made several mistakes afterwards that could cost him a lot of money. He didn’t call the police until he got home, and it turns out they can’t file an accident report after you leave the scene. He got the driver’s name and number, but not the name of her insurance company, which means he can’t file a claim with them unless she agrees to cooperate. Although several people saw what happened and helped him out of the street, he didn’t think to collect their contact information so he won’t have any witnesses to back up his story. Now he’s very worried that he will end up having to pay the medical bills himself."
List the cause(s) and effect(s) in the reading.

cause: accident, lack of police report, missing insurance information, no witnesses
effect: victim may have to pay medical costs

cause: poor driving, crossing the road, texting
effect: car accident

cause: hit by a car
effect: no serious injuries

cause: car accident
effect: failure to call the police, get insurance policy, or gather witness information

How is President Obama using an appeal to reason, or logos, in this excerpt? For the American people can no more meet the demands
Kryger [21]

An appeal to logos is one which uses logical arguments in order to persuade the reader of an opinion. In this case, President Obama is providing logical arguments as evidence for his claim. He argues that unity is vital to the country because a single person cannot accomplish everything that is necessary for a society to function and thrive.
