The reason why the United States limited interest in overseas expansion was due to  post-Civil War reconstruction.

<h3>What was the post civil war reconstruction</h3>

This was the period after the United States had fought its civil war. The war was due to the fact that the south had wanted to secede.

The North had abolished slavery in the country. This did not go well with the south who were the ones using the slaves.

After the war ended, the country was more concerned with fixing their internal issues first.
